Bondla Zoo

 

Bondla Zoo occupies a pride of place amongst the eco-tourism sites of the state. It is spread over an area of 60 Hectares enveloped by the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary on all its sides.Established as the animal rescue centre of Forest Departmentat in the year 1969, Bondla zoo was accorded the status of “Small Zoo” by the Central Zoo Authority in the year 2006.

Bondla Zoo is the only zoological park in the state of Goa. Numerous endangered species provides visitor an experience of “Nature away from nature”. Animal exhibits includes Tiger, Hippopotamus, Leopard, Gaur, Chowsingha, Black buck, Sambar, Spotted deer, Sloth bear, Porcupine, Wild boar, crocodiles, reptiles etc.

    

 

   

Formal gardens, spacious lawns, variety of roses, and colourful flowering plants in the middle of the forest do please the eyes.
One of the best worked idols of deity “Gajalaxmi” with several motifs in bold relief, belonging to the period between the 6th and 8th century and venerated by ancient settlers, are located here. Idols of “Vetal-Betal” found during past excavation work are an added attraction.
