Forests of Goa form the part of Western Ghats, the region which have been internationally recognized as Biodiversity Hotspot of the world owing to its rich flora and fauna. Most of the Goan forests are located in the eastern region of the state. The forests of Goa are known for their grandeur and majesty. They are like a green pearl of the tourist paradise state. From Moist Mixed Deciduous Forests to Sub-Tropical Hill Forests, from Semi-Evergreen Forests to Evergreen Forests-the forests are the life supporting systems of the state as they are the store house of precious rivers & other natural resources.
PROTECTED AREA NETWORK
With 20% of its total geographical area dedicated for the proliferation of wildlife, the state of Goa has 6 Wildlife Sanctuaries and 1 National Park. These protected areas are provided with complete protection to the fauna & flora to conserve the unique biodiversity of the State. These are :

Location (Taluka): Sanguem, Dharbandora
Bhagwan Mahavir (Mollem) National park is a beautiful place, it is situated on the eastern border of Goa. Total area of the park is about 107 Km. In the year of 1978, the core area of the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary declared as a National Park, and known as Bhagwan Mahavir (Mollem) National park.

Location (Taluka): Sanguem, Dharbandora
Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary is a 133 sq km protected natural habitat located in the Western Ghats of India, on the Goa-Karnataka border. Touted to be Goa's largest wildlife reserve, it is home to the famous Dudhsagar Falls, Mollem National Park, Tambdi Surla Temple, and Devil's Canyon among other attractions. It houses a variety of plants, birds, and animals.

Location (Taluka): Canacona
The Cotigao Wildlife sanctuary was set up in 1968 to protect the exposed stretch of woodland on the Goa-Karnataka border, which was home to a number of species of animal and bird life, as well as some rare, old trees.

Location (Taluka): Ponda, Sattari, Dharbandora
Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is located in northeastern Goa, India in Ponda taluka. The total area of the park is 8 km. It is a popular destination for both tourists and schoolchildren. A wide variety of animal life can be encountered, including: sambar deer, Indian bison, Malabar giant squirrel, Indian peafowl and many species of snakes.

Location (Taluka): Tiswadi
Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is an estuarine mangrove habitat, which is declared as the bird sanctuary, and located on western tip of the Island of Chorão along the Mandovi River, Goa, in India. The sanctuary is named after Salim Ali, the eminent Indian ornithologist.

Location (Taluka): Sattari
The Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is a 208.48km protected area in the Indian state of Goa in the Western Ghats of South India. It is located in the North Goa District, Sattari taluka near the town of Valpoi. The sanctuary is an area of high biodiversity, and is being considered to become a Project Tiger tiger reserve because of the presence of Bengal tigers.

Location (Taluka): Sanguem
Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is located in South-Eastern Goa, India. It constitutes one of the vital corridors of the Western Ghats and covers an area of about 211.05km. Netravali or Neturli is an important tributary of River Zuari, which originates in the sanctuary. Forests mostly consist of moist deciduous vegetation interspersed with evergreen and semi-evergreen habitat.
